Trish Foti Genco: News

July 4th Newletter - July 11, 2010

Friends,

It’s hard to believe that we are already to the beginning of July. A “Happy 4th of July” to all! A special prayer of thanksgiving for all those who so bravely protect our great nation and have done so for generations! July 4th has always been a special day in my family! It was my Grandmother’s birthday…she would have been 110 this year! It is hard to imagine that; loved her so…Where is all the time going?!?

Things are busy here in New Orleans! I recently sang for a beautiful Mass with the MIR Group on the anniversary of the apparitions of Our Lady. Previously this week, I had the privilege of singing for the Kenner City Mayoral Inauguration. The inspiring Inaugural Mass and Ceremony were beautiful and I am honored to have been a part of it. There is great hope for the future of the City of Kenner!

I had hoped that this email would announce the release of my new website, but due to technical difficulties that is not the case. I apologize to anyone who has tried to access my website in the past few days and was unable. My domain has been temporarily reconnected to the previous server and is now viewable until all the kinks can be worked out and the new site is up and running. Please be on the lookout for an announcement that my new site has been launched. As always you can find the site at: tfotigenco.com

I am happy to announce that this year the “Catholic Grammys” (UCMVA), United Catholic Music and Video Association, will be having there awards in Canada! I am excited to announce that I have been nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year. My songs, from my latest release INSPIRED CLASSICS, have also been nominated in a number of different categories. Bravo to all my friends who helped make this wonderful project happen! Nominations are: “Wherever You Go”; Liturgical/Sacramental. “Christmas Lullaby” Seasonal Song ; “Ave Maria” and “Laudate Dominum” Devotional Song. Lastly, the entire project INSPIRED CLASSICS has been nominated for Devotional Album of the Year and Joe Hand for Producer of the Year.

On a regional front, please continue to pray for our beloved coast! As the number of days increase and the list of beaches effected by the oil spill continues to grow, please continue to support our region by visiting and eating LOTS of seafood! In an effort to help I am donating 50% of all CD sales during the month of July and August to Gulf Aid. Please use this great opportunity to stock up on Christmas gifts and help the coast. My CDs can be purchased online fromtfotigenco.com, CDbaby.com and CatholicMusicNetwork.com. You can find more information about Gulf Aid at gulfaid.org. I am lining up concerts to help out Parishes affected, so stay tuned! For more info or to schedule a concert contact Rachel@tfotigenco.com

In other news, I am thrilled to report that the 3 Sopranos: Praise to Raise Concert was a HUGE success! The Church was packed and we rose over $8,200 for the children in Haiti. Lorraine Hess, Kitty Cleveland and I had such a blast performing together that we hope to do so again in the near future; be on the lookout for our upcoming concerts.

I have also begun working on music for my new project LOVED! I am so excited to be starting this journey. Be on the lookout for a digital release in the near future and more news!

We are also re-designing and “fine tuning” our 2008 Christmas Project. We are booking concerts for this special release! I will be joined by Dreux Montegut (piano), Helen Maxwell (Harp), Karen Ray (cello), Anne Chabreck (flute), Vance Woolf (trumpet) and friends. Please contact tgenco@aol.com to schedule one in your parish!

Also, Immaculate Conception is in the process of finalizing its 4th Annual Fall Concert Series. Be on the lookout for updates regarding dates and times. Performers to date include a Gospel Choir, Strings, Flute, and Brass Group! I hope to see you at one of these concerts. If you would like to sponsor one of these concerts and help offset the cost please contact me at tgenco@aol.com

God Bless,

Trish

WLAE to continue airing daily Mass and other faith-based programming
By: SComiskey
Wednesday June 17th 2009
A Message from WLAE General Manager Ron Yager
I am pleased to announce that the PBS Board voted this morning on the newly revised membership policies and that WLAE has been grandfathered in on the broadcasting of all our Catholic programming including the daily mass. We received numerous calls and e-mails from our viewers to keep the mass on the air and I am delighted that we will be able to continue this vital outreach to the many homebound and shut-ins that we serve. Glenda King, Barbara Wick and myself spoke to many of these folks directly and it was clear that our airing of the mass and other religious programming definitly makes a difference in their lives.

Thanks to everyone for your prayers and support.

Ron

PBS SET TO STRIKE TELEVISED MASS - June 8, 2009

As cantor for the televised Sunday mass at St. Louis Cathedral, it would be disheartening to see PBS strike “sectarian” programming. “The Public Broadcasting Service (“PBS”) is poised to vote on June 14-15 on a revised programming policy for its affiliated television stations which, among other policies, would not permit them to air “sectarian” programs. Part of its decision will include a definition of “sectarian.” PBS’ proposed definition appears to include such programs as “The Face: Jesus in Art” and “Walking the Bible”, but excluding programs which consist of religious services (such as the Mass).” (Archdiocese of New Orleans) The Mass held at St. Louis Cathedral, which is tele vised daily in addition to the Sunday liturgy reaches people all across the greater New Orleans area, who otherwise would not be able to participate in the liturgy. This mass is seen in prisons, nursing homes, and hospitals, in addition to many others who for one reason or another can not attend a traditional mass.
PBS has met with the United States Council of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) and states that the PBS committee-council would find community reaction to the above proposal helpful in their decision making process. If you or your staff have a reaction to this proposed decision, please send an email or fax to: Helen Osman, Secretary of Communications, USCCB at hosman@usccb.org or 202/541-3129 before June 12, 2009. We will forward these comments to PBS immediately.

For more information concerning the discontinuing of “sectarian” programming on PBS please see http://www.arch-no.org/News.php?mode=read&id=474&title=PBS+considering+striking+%27 sectarian%27+programming (Archdiocese of New Orleans Statement)

Recording artist to present concert

'Christmas at the Abbey' comes Friday

Friday,
November 30, 2007

The walls of Benet Hall at St. Joseph Abbey in Covington will resonate with the joyful sounds of Christmas when New Orleans-based Catholic recording artist Trish Foti Genco performs in concert Friday.

The concert, "Christmas at the Abbey," will begin at 7:30 p.m., and the public is invited to attend. Proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to St. Joseph Abbey for the renovation of Benet Hall.

The concert will showcase songs and music on Genco's latest album, "In His Presence . . . the Gift of Christmas." Produced partly in Nashville, Tenn., the CD was released in November and includes both classic and contemporary Christmas favorites, as well as some New Orleans jazz sounds.

"We did a Christmas CD because the people of New Orleans expressed (to us) that's what they wanted," Genco said. "We're excited about it."
A longtime singer who serves as music director for Immaculate Conception Church in New Orleans and cantor for St. Louis Cathedral, Genco said she was drawn to the idea of supporting Benet Hall through a concert to highlight the need for quality performing venues in the greater New Orleans area, particularly north of Lake Pontchartrain.

"We need venues for area musicians," she said. "I think (Benet Hall) is an important cultural center for the north shore."

Constructed in 1961 as a place for seminarians to perform as part of their formation process, the 610-seat venue has also been used for years by the local community for dance, musical and theatrical performances.

According to Benet Hall's theater manager, Kit Friedrichs-Baumann, renovation is taking place in stages, while the theater continues to be in use.

She said visitors to Benet Hall on Friday can enjoy the benefits of a new HVAC system that was recently installed, as well as a new light-control system. Other upgrades planned for the future include seat restoration; new house and stage flooring; and a new sound, lighting and rigging system.

Tickets to "Christmas at the Abbey" may be purchased in advance through Friedrichs-Baumann, or at the door before the performance. The doors will open at 6:45 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for senior citizens, students and children. St. Joseph Abbey is located at 75376 River Road in Covington. To purchase tickets or obtain more information, call Friedrichs-Baumann at 867-2233.

Also performing in the concert will be two members of the St. Louis Cathedral Boychoir, Carl Helmers and Bryton Gunther, as well as members of the teen choir of St. Peter Catholic Church in Covington, under the direction of Mary Beth Russell. Members of the St. Peter Teen Choir are: Marybelle Bates, Jenny Bravo, Leah Couvillon, Kevin Coyne, Jacques Damare, Alexandra Doucet, Karista Filopoulos, L.A. Lam, Sarah Mariano, Alexandra Mejia, Gina Mejia, Anneliese Moore, Bradley Pregeant and Meagan Robert.

Together with Genco and her team of musicians, the concert promises to be one of Christmas cheer and inspiration.

Rather than using professional musicians furnished by the Nashville producer, Genco opted to record her Christmas CD using five New Orleans area musicians. All of them, she said, are lifelong friends who enjoy successful professional musical careers locally. These musicians, who will join her onstage at the Abbey concert, include pianist Dreux Montegut, director of music at St. Louis Cathedral; Anne Chabreck, of the Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra, on flute; Karen Ray, of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, on cello; and Jeremy Brekke, of Loyola University, and Vance Woolf, of the LPO, on trumpets.

Genco said she chose to collaborate with local musicians on her Christmas CD "to raise awareness" around the nation that there are good, professional musicians who have remained in New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina, and "as a city we need to support them."

She said many of the national critical reviews she's read since her CD was released last month indicate a lack of awareness nationwide of the musical talent still available in New Orleans.

"They're shocked that we still have great musicians in the area," Genco said.
